Former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Rubiales was found guilty of sexual assault last week after kissing Jenni Hermoso during the medal ceremony after Spain beat England in the 2023 Women's World Cup final. After the verdict was out, England boss Sarina Wiegman and star forward Alessia Russo hailed the Spanish footballers' mental strength and reiterated their solidarity with the Spanish national team.

Spain are all set to lock horns against the Lionesses on Wednesday in a Women's Nations League group stage clash at Wembley. Ahead of the fixture, Spain and Barcelona superstar Bonmati showed her appreciation for their rivals' support and personally thanked Wiegman, Russo and Lucy Bronze.

Speaking to reporters, the Ballon d'Or winner said: "I heard Sarina speaking a lot of times supporting us with our issues. I always told her that I appreciate her words, also to Lucy and Alessia Russo. We didn't feel alone in this issue and they also felt that this is a global case and not only a Spanish case. They felt our suffering and they supported us. So I appreciate that a lot and I think all my teammates and I are thankful for their support."

After facing England at Wembley on Wednesday, Bonmati will be back in action for Barcelona on March 2 as they take on Eibar in a league clash.
