Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to demand the signing of Atletico Madrid glovesman Jan Oblak, after he puts in a heroic display against them in the Champions League last 16.

The Slovenia international made a huge nine saves against the reigning European champions at Anfield, pulling off a number of unbelievable stops to frustrate a Liverpool side who had an astounding 34 efforts on the night.

The former Benfica stopper was only beaten by a powerful header from Gini Wijnaldum and a strike from Roberto Firmino, which he could do nothing about after it hit the woodwork and left the Brazilian with practically an empty net.

It seemed like Oblak’s work was all for nothing after the Reds No.9 netted that goal, but a mistake from his opposite number Adrian allowed Marcos Llorente to get Atletico back in the tie – the same player then scored again, before Alvaro Morata found the net to ensure that the Slovenian emerged from Anfield as the hero.

Given his admirable efforts in between the sticks, a number of Liverpool fans on Twitter have demanded that Sporting Director and transfer guru Michael Edwards brings the 27-year-old to Merseyside…

To kick off the reaction, these three supporters all called for Oblak to be signed as a backup for Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian is arguably the only keeper capable of being in the conversation alongside the Atletico Madrid glovesman in terms of who the best glovesman around is, so it would seem like an unnecessary signing if Liverpool did capture him – even more so seeing as he’s rated at £90m!

However, these comments come at an appropriate time given Adrian’s howler at the Kop end – he quite simply isn’t a good enough backup for a keeper of Alisson’s standard, so a better option should probably be targeted.

Elsewhere, another fan said that they only want to see the Slovenian signed so that Liverpool never have to face him again!

In truth, there is no way that Jurgen Klopp could find a way to keep both Alisson and Oblak happy with both of Europe’s best shot-stoppers in his squad, so these Liverpool fans’ demands seem pretty unrealistic and, if anything, greedy.

No clues: Can you name the season these iconic Liverpool images belong to?
